ProX was incorporated in New Zealand in 2012 by the Weerasundara family. Asoka migrated to New Zealand in 1998 with his then-young family. Before leaving Sri Lanka, Asoka was serving as the CEO/Managing Director of Merchant Credit of Sri Lanka (MCSL), which was wholly owned by Bank of Ceylon and Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka. In addition to his career in banking, Asoka was also the first bilingual cricket commentator/presenter in the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and the Rupavahini Corporation. The highlight of his broadcasting stint was anchoring the 1996 World Cup. 

Asoka is the owner-operator of Pro X, and his wife, Rangika, is working as a banking consultant in a leading bank in New Zealand. The two children, Nathalie and Rakitha, completed their entire education in New Zealand, with both graduating from Victoria University in Wellington. Nathalie went to complete her Master’s degree at the same university, while Rakitha became the first Sri Lankan to represent New Zealand in cricket when he played in the under-19 World Cup in 2014 in the UAE.

Currently, Asoka is pursuing his doctorate, with the research topic being “Ambitions of Sri Lankan students studying in New Zealand.”
